Tribu Radiante | Radiant Tribe
EDUCATION
Our ten local teachers make La Tribu Radiante a place of love and acceptance many of the students can’t get enough of. Over 120 elementary and secondary students registered for reinforcement class (tutoring) in 2020. They all receive extra tutoring in reading and math, access to the computer lab, help with homework, and a healthy meal before they leave. Forty of these students are participating in our steadily growing sponsorship program. These students are paired with a sponsor who makes a monthly donation which provides a locally tailored school uniform, school shoes, backpack, school supplies, and a monthly school supply “refresh” where they receive materials required by the public school that particular month.

BIRTHDAY BIKE
First year sponsored students receive something extra special when their birthday comes around. A BIRTHDAY BIKE! In our community there are few cars and it’s a long walk to school or La Tribu Radiante. This gift of transportation allows students to make it to school, make it to reinforcement class, and run errands for the family.
Vicente (right) rode his brother’s bike to pick up his school supplies and was surprised to find out we had a Birthday Bike waiting for him. We asked him how he was going to get both bikes home and he assured us it wouldn’t be problem.
HOW CAN YOU GET INVOLVED?
MARINER LIBRARY
A SOLAR POWERED ECO-LIBRARY
Donde esta la biblioteca? Literacy is one of our top priorities. With help from some inspired students and friends the dream of a library in rural Nicaragua became a reality. Why is it in the shape of a boat? Because we wanted to provide a fun space for students gain a love for reading. The front of the boat and the doors are made from reclaimed wood. We used eco-bricks to save concrete in the pillars and under the wood floor. There are over 200 pounds of recycled plastic throughout the project. In our humid climate we have seen books balloon to twice the normal size or fall apart completely. To keep our books safe for the long haul, there is a solar powered air conditioning unit to control the humidity.

SHARE A LOVE OF READING
We have a great start with over 400 Spanish language books for students to use. There are plenty more shelves and we’ll continue adding to the library whenever we can. Books are expensive in Nicaragua so we are bringing them in little by little in suitcases when people come to visit. If you’d like to get involved, we have a few ideas below.
Goods, Not Money
Our staff works hard to make sure each student has what he/she needs for school regardless of their family situation. As much as possible, students receive goods instead of a monetary amount. This ensures that your support is used exactly how it was intended to be. We work with local vendors to purchase high quality uniforms and school supplies which will allow your investment to not only benefit the student, but also the Nicaraguan economy.
